You're in Amplitude. You can see feature adoption, funnel drop-off, retention curves. What you can't see is whether the users churning at step 3 are all on the free plan, or whether the power users who never converted are high-value enterprise targets sitting in your CRM.

That context is in Snowflake. Getting it into Amplitude means enriched user properties syncing back from the warehouse — account tier, deal stage, LTV estimate. But when the reverse sync runs, it maps to Amplitude users by whatever single identifier the connector is configured to use. Your CRM has those users by email. Amplitude tracked them by device_id before they logged in. The sync looks like it worked. The cohort is incomplete.

The Real Problem

Why connecting Amplitude and Snowflake still takes too many tools

Amplitude's native Data Warehouse destination covers the outbound leg — behavioral events land in Snowflake. The gaps are identity resolution across systems and the return flow: enriched Snowflake properties back into Amplitude user records for cohort targeting.

Amplitude's identity model is internal. It merges anonymous device_id sessions with authenticated user_id records as users log in — but only within Amplitude. When Snowflake holds records keyed on email from the CRM, account_id from the product database, or customer_id from billing, no connector automatically maps those to the right Amplitude user. A reverse ETL job configured to match on user_id will miss every record where the warehouse identifier is email. The result: enriched properties that appear to sync successfully but land on a subset of the intended profiles. Users who converted from anonymous sessions, users who exist in CRM but never triggered an Amplitude event, users with multiple devices — all partially or incorrectly enriched.

Amplitude's schema governance adds a second failure surface. Amplitude enforces event schemas and property types through its Data Management layer. A Snowflake VARCHAR column syncing to a property expected to be a number fails silently — Amplitude accepts the API call and drops the property. A renamed property in the warehouse breaks the mapping. Debugging means cross-referencing Amplitude's Data Quality dashboard, the reverse ETL delivery logs, and Snowflake query history with no single point of visibility.

Pipes resolves identity before data moves. It stitches device_id, user_id, email, account_id, and any other identifier into a unified profile — then maps the correct Amplitude user for every enriched record. Schema type coercion and property name validation happen in the transform layer before the API call, so mismatches surface where you can fix them, not silently inside Amplitude's ingestion pipeline.

Your product team runs Amplitude. Every signup, feature activation, and session lands there as events. Your data team has built a Snowflake model that joins those behavioral signals with CRM data — deal stage, account tier, renewal date — and produces an enrichment score per user.

The goal: get that score into Amplitude as a user property so growth teams can build cohorts without SQL access.

Without Pipes: you write a reverse ETL job that reads the enrichment table, maps warehouse records to Amplitude user_ids, and calls Amplitude's Identify API. The mapping works for authenticated users. It breaks for users who are in Salesforce but signed up anonymously in Amplitude, users who used multiple devices before logging in, and users whose Salesforce email doesn't match their Amplitude signup email. Amplitude schema validation drops properties where types don't match, silently. The cohort your PM builds has 60% of the intended users. No one knows why.
